Language to Use on Your Next Call

The news of the state of the economy has a lot of people questioning how to pursue their business. This is the time you can really offer such a wonderful service to your customers. This is also the time to focus on meeting new customers. I want you to decide that this is the time for your business to prosper because you are so passionate about being helpful to others. Remember, hearing a no will not keep you from success. Not wanting to hear a no will.

Are you ready to talk to 5 people today? It only takes 30 seconds or less.

Sharing is offering and caring is being happy with whatever they say. Remember, it is perfectly ok for people to say no but it is not ok to hesitate to share because someone might say no. Ask yourself the following question, when a sharing opportunity presents itself, "If I knew this person wanted to join me as a consultant, be a hostess or host or purchase one of my products, would I be sharing right now?" I believe your answer would be yes. So now think, "I should be sharing with everyone in case they want to say, 'yes'".

I know many of you have expressed to me that people are saying that they are hesitant to book parties/classes because of people not having extra money to spend. I have a suggestion and want to challenge each of you reading this newsletter to pick up the phone and use the following language to paint some pictures for people to hear/see that there is a reason to invite their friends over to see your products. Use the following language and let me know how it works for you.

Language to Use on Your Next Call


"Hi Barbara. Are you interruptible? I am calling you today because I know we are all feeling the challenges of our current economy. I want to be sure that I am able to continue to provide the best customer service I can. I would love for you to be one of my hostesses for a new pilot program I want to do. I would like for you to tell your friends and family about how I am really aware of all the financial challenges people are experiencing and I want to help. I would love to do parties/classes starting now with the goal to help them check off one or two gifts they will need in the next few months. Some of the guests attending might want to be one of the next hostesses for the following month so the group can continue to check off another gift they would need to purchase for other gift needs and or to be able to select something special for themselves. Barbara, I have Thursday available. Would you like to be one of my first hostesses to help their friends be less stressed when it comes to shopping these days? We will make it fun, beneficial and worthwhile."

Then ask, "Have you ever thought about doing something alongside your family and other activities to earn extra income? It would be fun to have you join this mission helping others and at the same time helping your family too. It is so important to stay positive and help others do the same. What do you think? Can you see yourself trying it out to see if it could be for you? Sometimes the only way to find out if something is for you is to do it. Then whether it is or isn't you will have reached a goal of finding that out."

5 Minutes…5 Questions…5 Ways to a Stronger Business

1. How much money do you want to earn this month?__________________________________.

How much money you want or need to earn is one of your Purposes. We have many Purposes. Your Purpose could be to gain confidence in public speaking; or to make new friends; or to earn a company incentive such as a trip or a cruise. Determining your Purpose is the first step in achieving your Purpose.

2. Who could use a “Customer Care” call from you?___________________________________.

Call someone who could benefit by hearing your voice. Ask if they need more products, if they’d like to book a party, or if they would just like to talk. When we care about others, show genuine concern for another person’s well-being, we are giving of ourselves. Who can you call?

3. Who do you know needs additional income?
________________________________________.

Perhaps you have heard about someone who recently lost a job, or who is struggling to pay the bills, or has a growing family. Many people you know could use a little more income. Let these individuals know about your business opportunity. Your call could be the call that changes a life for the better.

4. Which member of your team could use a positive word of encouragement?
______________.

Whether your team numbers a few or into the hundreds, there are team members who need your encouraging words. Take a moment to call a member of your team. Thank her for her efforts. Congratulate her on a recent accomplishment. Invite her to lunch. Reach out and inspire.

How can you make your business stronger?_________________________________________.

List at least one thing you can do today to make your business stronger. Perhaps there is a motivational article in a magazine you have set aside to read later. Is it time to pick it up and give it a read? Is there a motivational tape you have wanted to try? From time to time, we all need to recharge our motivational batteries. What can you do today to power up?

Never let the fear of striking out get in your way!

“Never let the fear of striking out get in your way.”

I like sports and statistics and one of the most eye-opening sports statistics involves the immortal home run slugger, Babe Ruth.  Legendary for hitting ‘em out of the park, Ruth was famous for another record.  For a total of 38 years, until 1964, Ruth held the record for the most strikeouts in a major league career.  The most strikeouts!

When asked about this by a sports reporter, Babe Ruth, one of the greatest players the game had ever seen, said this:  “Never let the fear of striking out get in your way.”

Time and again, direct sellers, especially those new to the business tell me, “I don’t want to call on my friends.  They’ll think I’m a nuisance.”

This is one of the most common stumbling blocks on the road to sales success.  I assume you are proud of your company and your products or services, or you would not be in the business in the first place.  Since you’re proud of what you do, I’m certain your friends want to know about it.  If they are not interested in your products or your business opportunity at this time, that’s okay.  But how would you feel, if later you learned they purchased a similar product or service from someone else because they didn’t realize you were in this business too?

Realize this as well.  Every person you meet is connected to dozens of other people and they are all potential customers or recruits.  Don’t call on a friend and you have missed the opportunity to become acquainted with dozens, perhaps hundreds of people.  Some will not be interested, but others will want the products, services, or business opportunity you offer.

There’s another reason to tell friends about your business.  When brand new to the business, call on friends to listen to your presentation and offer suggestions for improvement.  You may be amazed when these “dry run” presentations net customers and potential recruits wanting more information about your company.

When you have a great product or service, you are not imposing on friends to tell them about it.  Like Babe Ruth, rather than count your strikeouts, add up your home runs.  That’s the only score that counts.

Growing Your Business This Year

Please share the poem below with everyone you know. I have been using this poem in my training for over 15 years and it continues to remind people that with just one step at a time they can reach the next level and experience new opportunities. The Comfort Zone

I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I couldn’t fail.
The same four walls of busy work were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I’d never done before.
But I stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn’t matter that I wasn’t doing much.
I said I didn’t care for things like diamonds, furs and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside my zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

You are NOT a born salesperson!

When talking with someone about your business opportunity, have you ever heard the response, “I’m sorry, I’m not a born salesperson.” Of course you have. Perhaps you expressed this concern when someone offered you the business opportunity. The truth of the matter is this: No one has ever been a born salesperson.

Sales people are not born. They are developed, nurtured, instructed, trained, and encouraged to succeed. We’ve seen evidence of this fact time and again. An individual new to sales experiences a rocky start. Sales are low, perhaps non-existent. However, through perseverance, trial-and-error, practice, and sheer determination to improve, this same individual is later referred to as “a natural-born salesperson.”

The ability to sell is not a gift. It’s not magic. It’s a matter of possessing the maturity to accept “no” for an answer, and going on to find a “yes.” It’s the determination to continue on, day-after-day, meeting new people and sharing your products and business. It’s the ability to start each day with a positive attitude and end each day eager to begin anew. It’s about caring.

Failure is not the act of falling down. It is remaining there at the end of the fifth act.

As you step upon the stage as a salesperson, remind yourself you were not born to be there. A sales person’s responsibility is to introduce a product, service, or opportunity to someone who needs it. Explain the benefits. Offer suggestions. Ask for the sale.

These are the steps of selling. Those who enjoy the limelight as top salespeople master the steps of selling, practice their craft every day, and love the challenge of helping others to help themselves.

Salespeople are never born to be salespeople. Salespeople are made. Take a moment to list your strengths as well as your weaknesses as a salesperson. Take advantage of your strengths and work to improve the weaknesses. Someday someone may say, “You’re a natural-born salesperson.” When that happens, you will smile and graciously respond with a “thank you.” But in your heart, you will know the truth.
